Lori D. Sumner, 52, Shell Lake, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, WI. A celebration of Lori's life will be held from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Shell Lake Arts Center in Shell Lake, Wi. Lori was born on May 20, 1965 in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, to Edwin and Nancy (Rydberg) Minot. She attended Shell Lake elementary schools and was a 1983 graduate of Shell Lake High School. She then attended the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater where she received her BA degree in Business Education. She later obtained her Master of English Language Arts and Communications Degree from Hamline University, St. Paul, MN. Lori had been employed with First Bank System in St. Paul, and later with Mindsharp Learning Center in Bloomington, MN, where she taught attorneys and judges how to use computers. After she achieved her Masters Degree, Lori became employed for the school district of St. Paul, teaching 7th and 8th grade English at Battle Creek Middle School and Murray Middle School. She then returned to Shell Lake where she taught high school English, Communication Arts, and Literature. Lori served as the high school forensics coach, directed the school play, was a master gardener and a Packers fan. She was united in marriage to William W. Sumner on August 29, 1997 in St. Paul, MN. Lori is survived by her husband, Bill and her brothers and sisters, Steve (Cheri) Minot of Shell Lake, Pam (Randy) Ladd of Gillette, WY and Mark Minot of Shell Lake. She is further survived by her husband's son and grandson, Michael Sumner (Olga Herrera) of Minneapolis and their son Aidan and Bill's other son David Sumner of Excelsior, MN and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a foster brother, Frank Halvorson. The family will establish a scholarship in Lori's name for students from Shell Lake High School pursuing an education degree. Donations may also be made to American Cancer Society/Hope Lodge.
