Loren LaVerne Longmore, 89 formerly of Marshfield entered heaven on December 25, 2014, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX, following a bicycle accident.
Loren was born to Ernest and Nellie (Brown) Longmore on August 16, 1925, in Warba, MN. Blonde and small for his age, people called Loren a toe-headed tyke that was soon shortened to his life-long nickname, Ike, though some called him Tadpole. He grew up in a tar-papered shack with a richness of cousins and friends.
Loren grew up in Warba, MN, with his parents and six sisters. He graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine, MN, in 1943 and soon joined the Army Air Corps to fight in World War II. He trained as a radio operator for B17 bombers and arrived in Nuthampstead, England to fly with Joe Kaminsky's crew. Three times Loren's crew was scheduled to run bombing raids over Berlin and three times their mission was scrapped. On the fourth day, the war in Europe ended.
After his honorable discharge, Loren returned to northern Minnesota where he married Eileen (Hendrickson) Laudenbach on September 15, 1950. Loren, Eileen and Eileen's daughter Carole moved to Minneapolis, MN, where Loren completed a degree in physical therapy as their family grew with Valeri Jean's birth in Grand Rapids, MN, in 1952. Loren began a long and successful career in physical therapy in Neenah where Jeffrey Mark was born in 1954 and Green Bay, WI, where Gary Victor and Kevin Dean were born in 1959 and 1960 respectively, before settling in Marshfield, WI. After starting and growing a substantial physical therapy department at St. Joseph's Hospital, Loren identified a need for services at smaller hospitals and nursing homes throughout the state. He began Theracare, Inc., one of the first independent physical therapy services, in 1976 and continued serving patients along with a staff of others until his retirement in 1988.
After retirement, Loren and Eileen spent their years with friends and family in northern Minnesota in the summer; Harlingen, TX, in the winter; traveling east to connect with Loren's WWII bomber crew in the spring and at their home along the Little Eau Pleine River in the town of McMillan near Marshfield in the autumn. Loren enjoyed fishing, biking, golf, cribbage and performing with musical groups, using his love of oldies, country western and cowboy songs. Following Eileen's death in 2011, Loren continued his annual migration. In time he met Jan Crotteau, the widowed sister of a former employer from his high school years. Loren and Jan spend many lovely months together before her passing in August, 2014.
He is survived by his 5 children and their mates: Carole Ann (Jack) Braford, Valeri Jean Gungor, Jeffrey Mark Longmore and his friend Merry Petitclair, Gary Victor (Linda Thom) Longmore, Kevin Dean (Dixie Langreck) Longmore; and their offspring: Jack (Pritsana) Braford, Jr.; Michael Braford and his daughter Haley Hopkins and her children; Kristen (Cheryl Wilson) Braford and their children Jenna and Justin; Jodi Braford and her daughter Lauryn Woodward; Jill Braford; Bahri Michael (Monica Rauwald) Gungor and their children Evan, Bennett and Megan; Christopher (Jessica Gudgeon) Gungor and their children Austin Carver and Wyatt Carver; Jessica (TJ Curtiss) Longmore and their son Xavier; Ryan Longmore and his daughter Kelsey; Katee Longmore; Benjamin Longmore; June (Joshua) Kunze and their children; Joel (Ashley) Longmore and their daughter Kyan; and Shannon (Brant Serchen) Longmore. He is further survived by two sisters, Bonnie (Longmore) Jaeger and her children and Alice (Longmore) Kochaver and her children, and brother-in-law Victor Kochaver.
