Obituary

Lois B. (Brockman) Kastern, 76 of Marshfield died peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Golden Living Center Three Oaks in Marshfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Friday, October 31, 2014 at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield with Fr. Sam Martin officiating. Cindy Penker along with St. John's Funeral Choir will provide the music. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Visitations will be from 4-7pm Thursday at Rembs Funeral Home and again on Friday at the church from 9:30am until service time. There will be a 4pm rosary Thursday by the Parish Council of Catholic Women and a 6:30pm rosary by the Knights of Columbus both at the funeral home. Lois was born on October 8, 1938 to Leonard and Bernice (Peart) Brockman in the home of Joe Wirtz's Cranberry Marsh in the town of Hansen, Wood County. Shortly after that, her family moved to Pittsville where she attended St. Joachim's Parochial School and graduated from Maryheart High School in 1956. She then entered St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Marshfield and received her diploma in 1959. Lois was the head nurse in the recovery room for 12 years at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was united in marriage to John R. Kastern on May 18, 1968 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. She and her husband belong to St. John's Catholic Church for over 40 years. She was a member of St. John's Altar Society, taught CCD classes, helped with the Cherub Program and served on the church renovation committee. Lois was also a Girl Scout leader. Lois was president of the St. Joseph's School of Nursing Alumni Association for 25 years. After her children had grown and finished college, she was a caregiver for Kevin May for several years. She was a loving wife of John, mother of Joan (Eric) Everett of Lindenhurst, IL, Kristin Kastern of Marshfield, Michael (Heidi) Kastern of Waukesha and Lana (Clinton) Kliethermes of Goldsboro, NC; 10 grandchildren, Madison, Julia and Alex Everett; Luke, Claire and Sara Kastern and Isabel , Daniel, Michael and John Paul Kliethermes. She is further survived by her sister Elaine Hahner of Wisconsin Rapids; two brothers William (Sue) Brockman of Hayward and Jonathon (Kim) Brockman of Deerfield, WI and a sister-in-law Emma Brockman of Eau Claire. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Fr. Vaughn, Bradley and Myron Brockman and brother-in-law John Hahner. Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
