Leone Jeanette Solem Franze, 84, Marshfield, died on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at House of the Dove Hospice Home, Marshfield, Wisconsin. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Robert Lesher officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 12:00 pm noon until service time. Burial will take place in Singsaas Church Cemetery, Astoria, South Dakota on July 19, 2015. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Leone was born on July 19, 1930 in Clear Lake, South Dakota to Ben & Bertha (Ruttum) Solem. She was raised and educated in Brookings, SD, graduating from Brookings High School in 1948. Leone graduated from South Dakota State University, Brookings Phi Beta Kappa in 1953 with a B.S.N. in Nursing Education. She took the Masters Program in Patient Care Administration at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis in 1968 until 1970 and did further graduate work at Mankato (MN) State University from 1974 until 1976. Leone had been Administrator at Brookings Municipal Hospital (SD) from 1953 to 1954. She then was the Dean of Nursing at Yankton State Hospital (SD) from 1954 to 1955. From 1956 until 1963 she was Director of Nursing and Assistant Administrator at Madison (SD) Community Hospital and then Director of Patient Care Administration District One Hospital, Faribault, Minnesota (with two terms as acting administrator) from 1963 to 1977. Leone held a number of positions at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, WI from 1977 until her retirement in 1997, including Associate Vice President Patient Care Services (with one term as Acting Vice President). She founded the Forum 55+ Program at St. Joseph's. She later went on to help found the Marshfield Alzheimer's Respite Care Services program. Leone was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Marshfield, WI from 1977 until the present time. She was also a member of P.E.O. and Sons of Norway and past member of the A.N.A. and A.H.A. She was married in Brookings, SD in 1953 to James L. Franze. They separated in 1955. She is survived by David of Minneapolis, MN, Marilyn Seidl-Kramer of Marshfield, and Evelyn Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Bertha Solem, siblings, Orville Solem, JB Solem, Evelyn Solem, and Lyall Solem and her former husband James Loren Franze.
