Obituary

Leonard J. Haasl, 89, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Willowbrook Point Senior Living in Stevens Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Blenker, with Rev. Jesse Burish officiating. Burial will take place in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Milladore, at a later date and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 pm until service time at St. Kilian's Catholic Church. Martens / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Leonard was born on March 6, 1927 in Milladore, the son of William and Eva (Merrill) Haasl and was a 1945 graduate of Auburndale High School. He married the love of his life, Dawne M. Hughes on September 17, 1949 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Milladore. She died on February 5, 2011. Leonard was part owner and salesman at Hughes Ford Service in Milladore. He received the Distinguished Service Award multiple times from Ford Motor Company. Leonard was an avid sports fan and thoroughly enjoyed Milwaukee Brewer baseball, Badger football and basketball, and UWSP hockey. In his younger days Leonard "Chic" excelled as a shortstop for the Wood County baseball team. He also enjoyed golfing, horseshoes and bowling. Leonard dedicated his entire life to his family and faith. He was a gentle, kind and loving man. He took great pride in his home, yard and garden. His faith in the Lord and his devotion to his family created a beautiful circle of love. He enjoyed bike rides, polka dancing and traveling with Dawne. Leonard and Dawne were the epitome of what a married couple should be, and taught their family the meaning of unconditional love. While it is sad to let our father go, it is a comfort to the family to know that he is reunited with his bride, son, daughter and other family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Lynn Haasl of Milladore, Kathleen (Thomas) Roth, of Junction City, Tami (Daniel) Hoff of Appleton, and Sheri (Jeffrey) Krueger of Kabetogama, MN and a son-in-law, Robert Mancl of Milladore. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Ryan (Shannon) Haasl, Jenny Roth (Ricky Belker), Terri (Chad) Eckes, Walter (Natalie) Roth, Hilary (Jake) Mlsna, Kristina Mancl, Michael Mancl, Daniel Hoff, Jr., Courtney Dawne Marie (Michael) Schumann, Elizabeth Hoff, Tyler Krueger (Hannah) and Nicole Krueger and 8 great grandchildren, Alysha Belker, Brooke Belker, Cassidy Eckes, Maisy Eckes, Charlotte Haasl, Elijah Mlsna, Emma Roth, Kate Mlsna and one expected in December. He is further survived by a brother, Phillip (Lorraine) Haasl of Port Edwards and sisters, Eva Skibba and Bea Henke, both of Wisconsin Rapids. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, a son, Glenn Ray Haasl, a daughter, Susan Marie Mancl, brothers, Emery, Carl, Ray and William Haasl and sisters, Lucille Grimm and Catherine Ashbeck. The family wishes to thank Dr. Vijay Aswani, Dr. Vimarsh Raina, the 2nd floor nursing staff and case managers at St. Michael's Hospital, and Riverview Lodge Assisted Living Health Care providers. A special thanks to Chris Stice, director of Willowbrook Point Senior Living and the staff for providing a home for our father in his last days.
