Leonard T. Ashbeck, Jr. 82, Milladore, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, April 22, 2016 at St. Kilian's Catholic Church, Blenker, with Rev. Jesse Burish officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 468 of Milladore. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Martens / Rembs Funeral Home, Junction City and on Friday from 9:30 am until service time at St. Kilian's Church. A Knights of Columbus rosary service will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
Leonard was born on February 24, 1934 at home in Wisconsin Rapids to Leonard and Celia (Hilgart) Ashbeck, Sr. He attended Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School until he moved with his parents to a farm in the Town of Sherry. He finished grade school at St. Kilian's in Blenker and graduated from Auburndale High School in 1952. In 1954 he enlisted in the United States Army serving for 2 years and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. After his honorable discharge he farmed with his father for many years.
He married Shirley Ostrowski on June 5, 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Polonia.
Leonard was a member of St. Kilian's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Christ the King Council #4646 of Junction City. Papa will be dearly missed by his grandsons who he cared for. He also enjoyed his cats.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, a son Thomas (Angela) Ashbeck of Milladore, a daughter, Marie (Paul) Johannes of Marshfield and grandsons Job and Judah. He is also survived by a brother Paul (Mary Ann) Ashbeck of Wisconsin Rapids, and sisters, Janet Fruin and Dolores (Edward) Lang of Auburndale. He is further survived by stepbrothers, David (Fran) Schlagenhaft of Marshfield and Richard Schlagenhaft (Patti) of Fond du Lac, and stepsisters, Thora (Robert) Loescher of Pewaukee and Fern (Al) Mattson of Calumet, Michigan and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard, Sr. and Celia, his stepmother, Dorothy; brother-in-law, Bill Fruin; niece, Theresa Coats; and a nephew, Brian Fruin.
