Obituary

Leon "Cubby" J. Schneider, 86, Hewitt, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Marshfield Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 4, 2021 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hewitt with Rev. Murali Anand Rayappan officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will take place from 4:00 until 7:00 pm with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:00 pm on Thursday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield and from 10:00 am until service time on Friday at the church. Leon was born on November 3, 1934 in Hewitt, the son of William and Philomene (Pankratz) Schneider. He married Marie Wilhelm on June 6, 1956 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Rozellville and they were one week short of celebrating their 65th anniversary. Leon had his own milk route until he sold it in 1966. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 139, and he worked at FF Mengel Co., Woodchip of America, and later as a road grader for the Town of McMillan. He also had a shop at his home where he completed numerous projects. He enjoyed going to steam engine shows and talking to the old timers. Leon, his dad, and his brothers founded the Central Wisconsin Steam Show, later known as North Central Wisconsin Antique Steam and Gas Engine Club, Edgar. He was also a member of the Union Thresheree and he recently was able to make a trip to see the largest steam engine at the James Valley Threshing Association in South Dakota. Leon also belonged to the Knights of Columbus. His pride and joys were his Minneapolis Steam engine and Minneapolis/Moline tractor. He is survived by his wife, Marie, son, Mike (Pam) Schneider of Hewitt, daughters, Karen (Scott) Johnson of Stratford, Kathy (Billy) Braunsky of Marshfield, Jane (Jeff) Martyn of Stratford, and Judy (Duane) Clark of Bancroft, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild on the way. He is further survived by his brothers and sisters, Doris (Norman) Zahn, James (Carol) Schneider, Mary Lou Nennig, Catherine (Douglas) Haferman, Gene (Nancy) Schneider and Stephen (Linda) Schneider. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Richard, Raymond, and Herbert Schneider.
