Obituary

Leo J. Varsho, Jr. 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Marshfield Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hewitt, with Rev. Murali Anand Rayappan officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Brad, Dale, Dick, Cole, Donny, and Denny Varsho. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday at Rembs Funeral Home and from 10:00 am until service time on Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hewitt. A Knights of Columbus rosary service will be at 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Leo was born on September 7, 1925 in Hewitt, to Leo and Mary Ann (Hirsh) Varsho, Sr. and received his education at St. Joseph's Parochial School in Hewitt. He married Marion H. Hartl on October 2, 1948 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hewitt and they were married for 64 years. Marion died on March 12, 2013. As a young man, Leo worked at Kohlbeck Blocks in Hewitt, at Stock-Gro and then at Hub City Foods, Marshfield, for 33 years until his retirement. After retirement he and his wife worked at Figi's for 10 years. While working he also farmed in the Town of Marshfield. Religion and God were important to Leo and demonstrated a strong faith during his life. He was an active member of St. Michael's, serving on the cemetery committee, and involved as a Mass server and usher until well into his 80's. One of his most exciting times was when he and Marion took a western states trip with Marion's sister and her husband, Ardie and Bob Guldan. He enjoyed hunting with his boys, bird watching, was a Brewers fan, and watching game shows, especially, Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. He is survived by his children, Sue (Ken) Helmke of Green Bay, Mary (Norbert) Saba of Deerfield, Linda (Mike Phillips) Schneider of Marshfield, Daniel (Ruth) Varsho of Stratford, Michael Varsho of Marshfield , Steven (Vickie) Varsho of Hewitt, Randall Varsho of Black Earth, Jeri Varsho of Marshfield, Vicki (Leonard) Brostowitz of Park Falls, Patrick Varsho of Marshfield, Gordon (Shirley) Varsho of Vesper, Sandra (Gary) Kosmicki of Arpin, Lee (Vicky) Varsho of Marshfield and Tracy (Bill) Gehrke of Auburndale. He is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. He is further survived by sisters, Lucille Simpson, Rita Piasecki and Celia Dail and a brother Donald (Kristine) Varsho. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sons, Charles, Scott and Keith, two grandchildren Amanda Varsho and Luke Brostowitz, a son-in-law, Lloyd Bourenske, two sisters, Mary Ann Hansen and Delores Varsho and five brothers, Joseph "Jumbo", Gene, Norbert, Richard and Andrew Varsho. A special thank you to the Stoney River staff, especially Betty and Steve. A memorial will be designated at a later date.
