Leo F. Berg, 89, Marshfield, died on Monday, October 3, 2011 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 10, 2011 at St. Johns Catholic Church. Rev. Samuel Martin will officiate and Suzanne Golden will be the organist for St. Johns Church Funeral Choir. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. The visitation will be held on Monday from 9:30 am until service time at St. Johns Catholic Church. A Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary service will be held on Monday at 10:15 am at St. Johns Catholic Church. Leo was born on December 23, 1921 in Marshfield, to Michael and Stella Berg and graduated from Marshfield Senior High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He married Leone Ann Shinko on January 3, 1948 at St. Johns Catholic Church, Marshfield. Leo served in the National Guard before joining the U.S. Navy where he served during WWII from 1940-1946 receiving an honorable discharge. He was scheduled to go on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington D C on October 16. After the war Leo returned to Marshfield and started his own restaurant business and later became head chef at the Casa Loma supper club for 16 years. He also worked as a manager at Westview Country Club and part time as a chef for the Holiday Inn and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Leone and by two sons, Russell (Linda) Berg of Alta Loma, CA, and Paul (Cindy) Berg of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Karen Berg and Suzi (Brett) Skaggs. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dennis and Gregory and a sister, Jean.
