Obituary

Lavina K. Joosten, 102 of Stevens Point died on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Atrium River View Lodge in Stevens Point. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Junction City, WI with Fr. John Ofori-Domah officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitations will be from 9am Saturday until time of services at the church. Martens/Rembs Funeral Home in Junction City is assisting the family. Lavina was born on March 31, 1913 in the town of Siegel to Peter and Cecilia (Haydock) Brostowitz. She attended Pleasantview Grade School and graduated from Rudolph High School in 1930. She was married to Edward H. Joosten on January 2, 1934 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Siegel and were married to 30 years. Edward passed away at the age of 53 on August 14, 1964. They had three children, Jerry, Eunice and Allen John. Lavina worked at Morgan's Pickle Factory and DuBay Cranberry Company. After Edward's death, she worked as a postal clerk at the Junction City Post Office for 16 years. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and belonged to the Altar Society and Blue Army Prayer Group. Lavina faithfully prayed the rosary daily. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidering and quilting. She made quilts for each one of her grandchildren and especially enjoyed traveling and playing cards with her friends and family. She further enjoyed trips to the casino with her sister Teresa and a good martini with anyone who came to visit. In 2009 at the age of 96, Lavina moved into the assisted facility River View Lodge in Stevens Point where she lived until her death. Lavina is survived by her children, Jerry (Marie) Joosten and their children, Pam (Andy) Rosandick, Karen (Tom) Stilp, Laura (Bill) Sima and Dale (Katie) Joosten; Eunice (Jim) Hughes and their children, Rick (Kim) Hughes, Randy (Candy) Hughes, Barb (Pat) Jelinski and Kim (Steve) Hodgeson; John (Bonnie) Joosten and their children, Amy (Shawn) DeBoer and Jill (Jon) Russell. She is further survived by 23 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; her in-laws, Bob and Loretta Slattery, John and Vi Thompson, Tony and Vi Joosten, Chet Joosten, Judy Kitowski and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Edward, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Janet (Tony) Bushmaker, Nathalie (Phil) Radtke and Teresa (Ed) Fidler; mother and father-in-law Walter and Minnie Joosten and other in-laws, Lawrence and Christine Joosten, Leo and Alice Joosten, Elmer and Avis Joosten, Mary Ann Joosten, Ray and Margaret Kitowski and Ed and Lorraine Mras. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Atrium Senior Living River View Lodge for their very special care of Lavina and the special angels from hospice.
