LaVern J. Stini, 60, died peacefully at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital with his mother at his side on December 29, 2015. LaVern was born on November 29, 1955 to Joseph and Caroline (Buchholtz) Stini in Marshfield. He graduated from Marshfield Senior High in 1974. He attended U.W. Whitewater, graduating in 1979 with a B. S. in Education and in 1981 with a Masters Degree. He taught science in New Jersey, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He also studied courses related to providing services to individuals with handicaps. Recently, he completed studies on the Mandarin language. LaVern was the owner/operator of Ground Crew Baseball Cards from 1977-2009 – traveling in a 3-state area selling at Flea Markets and Card Shows. LaVern wrote and published a novel – "The House on Rigmarole Street" in 2006.
LaVern was a member of the Knights of Columbus Father John Eisen Council #1799 and was the current Grand Knight – an office he took very seriously and dedicated much of his time to – wanting to make a difference in the organization and for its members. He is also Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Father John Eisen Assembly #1219 and the Honor Guard. LaVern enjoyed gardening and recently completed the clean-up and planting at the Ten Commandment /Beatitudes Monument on the Knights of Columbus property. LaVern looked forward to working the KC Fish Fry and helping in the kitchen. For several years, LaVern enjoyed helping his neighbors and friends with yard work, snow removal, remodeling, and other handyman chores.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Celebrants are Fr. Eric Berns, Fr. James Logan and Deacon Ray Draeger. Music will be provided by Cindy Penker and the St. John the Baptist funeral choir.
Visitation will begin at 9:00AM Tuesday at the church until time of service with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 9:30AM. The Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Honor Guard will post during the visitation. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield.
LaVern is survived by his mother, Caroline; his brother, David and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He also is loved by his cats, Buttons and Sabrina.
LaVern's family wishes to thank the staff on 8 North, 6 North, and Palliative Care as well as his physicians and staff at the Marshfield Clinic for the care they provided over the past year.
