Laura A. Schmitz, 96, Marshfield, died on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. The visitation will be held from 9:30 am until service time on Wednesday at Rembs Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, September 30, 2011 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa where a visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 am until service time there. Burial will take place in St. Boniface Cemetery in Westphalia. Laura was born on March 22, 1915 in Harlan, Iowa, to Henry and Mary (Kramer) Schmitz. She attended St. Boniface Parochial elementary and high school. She had served for fifty seven years as a dedicated housekeeper and friend of Rev. Anthony W. Fischer, serving faithfully at St. Boniface Parish in Waumandee, St. Josephs Parish in Stratford, and St. Annes Parish in Wausau. Father Fischer and Laura always provided a very happy rectory. They hosted parties up north and also never knew who would stop by for evening supper. All felt very much a part of the family as did Fathers staff. After her retirement she lived in Tomahawk for three years and in 1976 moved to Marshfield where she continued to look after Father Fischer until his death. She became a resident of Clark Co. Health Care Center in February 2008. She is survived by two sisters, Alice Kwapiszeski of Panama, Iowa and Naomi (Mark) Gross of Harlan, Iowa. She is further survived by many much loved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her best friend and employer, Father Tony Fischer, four sisters, Eileen, Lillian, Stella, and Mary Jane and two brothers, LeRoy and Virgil. Memorials may be designated in her name to Marys Place, Marshfield.
