Obituary

Kurt Morgan Dovenbarger, 57, of Marshfield WI, passed away October 10, 2022 at his home. Kurt was born in Marshfield, WI on July 19, 1965 to Dr. William (Bill) and Elizabeth (Betty) Dovenbarger.

Kurt moved with his mom to Madison when he was 14 years old and graduated from Madison West High School in 1983. He went on to Milwaukee Area Technical College where he graduated with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Occupational Music, and later, Graphic Design.

Kurt's lifelong passion for music and entertaining was a bright light for everyone who knew and loved him. Kurt played music professionally and taught lessons in the Milwaukee area for over 20 years. He played extensively in a wide variety of bands incorporating rock, blues, country, wedding music as well as solo and duo acts. Kurt went on to find much success with his bands Tunnel Project and Three James Morgan and advanced as one of the many highly respected guitar players in Milwaukee. The years spent playing gigs with his bands and many close musician friends were without a doubt, some of the best years of Kurt's life. He performed at many family weddings as well as both of his parents' funerals. Kurt loved giving guitar and piano lessons and seeing his students succeed musically. Locally he was a household name for live music and enjoyed his time playing with Faith Fire at Faith Lutheran Church.

Kurt was united in marriage to Kathy Beinert in 2000 and when their marriage ended, Kathy and her daughter Jenny remained very special to Kurt. He then went on to marry Nancy Lang in 2006. He moved to Marshfield at that time, and although they later divorced, together they had a son, Kade, who was the light of his life.

Together Kurt and Kade enjoying fishing, playing in their yard, visiting friends and playing video games together. Kurt loved watching Kade compete in soccer, football, baseball and basketball. Time spent with his one and only son was the most precious of time to Kurt. In addition, he was passionate about his family and friends, his music, and hunting and fishing. Kurt cherished time fishing with his brothers, whether locally on his boat or deep sea fishing in Florida.

Kurt is survived by his loving son Kade Dovenbarger, his sister Diane Meissner, his brothers Eric (Cynthia) Dovenbarger and Vance Dovenbarger, his stepmother Jane Dovenbarger and his special friend, Tanya. He is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews and step-siblings.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Bill and Betty Dovenbarger, his sister-in-law Melody Dovenbarger, his brother-in-law Jerry Meissner, and his nephew Travis Dovenbarger.

A celebration of life will be held at Chili Corners, W894 US Hwy 10, Chili, WI, from 4 -7 pm on Thursday, October 27th with a memorial program at 5 pm. Arrangements are being handled by Rembs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in Kurt's memory to Faith Lutheran Church in Marshfield or an education fund being set up for Kade.
