Karl R. Koch, 93, Marshfield, passed away Saturday, October 29 at Golden Living Center, Three Oaks, Marshfield. Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Marshfield with visitation at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:30 a.m. with Father Don Meuret officiating. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Karl was born January 26, 1918 in the town of Spencer, Marathon County, son of Richard and Anna (Weigl) Koch. He attended Manville Grade School and St. Johns Parochial Grade School, and was a 1936 graduate of McKinley High School in Marshfield. After high school Karl drove truck and cut poplar bolts in the area during the winter months. On November 9, 1940, he was married to Irene M. Fehrenbach at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on November 9, 2010. In October of 1940 he began working at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory, retiring in March 1982 after 42 years of employment. He loved building homes, and from 1949 to 1966 he spent evenings and weekends building several homes on the west side of Marshfield. He is survived by his wife Irene of Marshfield, one daughter Jane (Peter) Behrens of Marshfield and two sons, Chuck (Linda) Koch of Madison, and Bob (Linda) Koch of Harshaw; and seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Gertrude Koch of Marshfield, and Florence (Armond) Seehafer of Marshfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Dorothy Hakl, Margaret Jirschele and Alma Jirschele; and one brother, James Koch. Karls family would like to thank Three Oaks Living Center and Ministry Home Care Hospice Services and all individuals who gave him special care.
