Karen M. Sternweis, 59, Plover, died on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Ministry St. Michaels Hospital, Stevens Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be caregivers from Karens Aurora Home in Plover. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am until service time at Our Lady of Peace Church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Karen was born on September 19, 1952 in Marshfield, the daughter of George and Lorraine (Griesbach) Sternweis. Karen was born with cerebral palsy and grew up in her parents home. She then lived in various residential care facilities. Karen enjoyed music, going to church, shopping, picnics and various outings with family and friends. She was very outgoing and sociable; Karen loved life, her family, and those who took care of her. She is survived by her parents, George and Lorraine Sternweis of Marshfield, and her brothers and sisters, Ken Sternweis of Miami Beach, FL, David (Debbie) Sternweis of Clovis, CA, Julie (Dave) Wilken of Uncasville, CT, Mark (Shelli) Sternweis of Marshfield, and Lisa (Edgar) Torres of Port Edwards. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Kristen, Daniel, Casey and Andrew Sternweis and Lorena and Marcelo Torres. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and several aunts and uncles. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Fred and the ICU staff at Ministry St. Michaels Hospital and all those who have shown great love and care for Karen over the years.
