Obituary

Karen Y. Sersch, 87, of Marshfield, died Tuesday morning January 20th 2026 at her home with her family at her side.

A Celebration of Karen's Life will be held at a later date. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Karen was born February 1, 1938, to Joan & John Gilbert in Reno Nevada. Shortly after her birth the family relocated to Duluth, MN where she would grow up, later graduating from Denfield High School in Duluth. She went on to attend the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, St. Scholastica college in Duluth for Business Management, and Duncan Art School in Bloomington, MN. On March 1, 1980 she was married to the late Thomas N. "Teddy Bear" Sersch at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hewitt, WI. He sadly passed in 2013 after 33 years of marriage. In her younger years she found work as an assistant hotel manager, receptionist at a medical clinic, and most recently she had been employed at Figi's in Marshfield for 30 years, retiring in 2010.

Karen was a born volunteer: putting in countless hours at the Hope Lodge in Marshfield, Judging youth crafts at the Wisconsin State Fair, and sharing her talents with the Children's Miracle Network. In her spare time she loved putting her hands to work sewing and crafting ceramics. Most of all she enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her 5 children: Tammy, Kelly, Penny, Harry (Ashley), and Sandy; 10 grandchildren: Jessica, Jamie, Gordie, Christopher (Cassandra), Parker, Brent, Brandon (Jayme), Jerry, Mia (Brady), and Landon. Karen is further survived by 5 great-grandchildren: Amira, Aurora, Myles, Arthur, and Ryland; and her sisters-in-law: Beverly (William), Judith, Nancy, and Mary.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas, son Michael, granddaughter Nicole, brother Steve, and many other siblings-in-law.

The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice staff and nurses for the loving care they gave to Karen during her illness.
