Karen Jean Gates, 52 of Marshfield died peacefully on Friday evening, December 19, 2014 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. She bravely faced her illness and met each day head-on until the very end.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Marshfield with Fr. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Visitations will be from 4-7pm Friday at Rembs Funeral Home and again on Saturday at the church from 10am until time of services.
Karen was born on June 6, 1962 in Marshfield to Stanley and Joan (Welch) Fait. She was a 1980 graduate of Columbus High School. She was united in marriage to Darrell C. Gates on August 17, 1991 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Prior to her marriage, she was employed at the Marshfield News Herald, Figi's data entry department and at McDonald's Restaurant from 1996 until 2012, retiring because of ill health.
Her lifetime love was raising and showing rabbits. Karen belonged to the American Rabbit Breeders Association, American Dutch Rabbit Club, Wisconsin State Rabbit Breeders Association, Central Wisconsin Rabbit Breeders Association and the Upper Midwest Dutch Club. She also enjoyed camping and swimming.
Karen is survived by her mother Joan Fait of Marshfield; husband Darrell, and son Anthony Gates of Eau Claire.
She is further survived by her siblings Michael (Gayle) Fait of Marshfield, Nancy (Leon) LeClair of Two Rivers, Linda (Dan) Neve of Marshfield, Mary Lou (Richard) Volk of Arpin, twin sister, Sharon (Eric) Mixdorf of Denver, IA, Patty (Jim) Shaw of Marshfield and Kathy (Tony) Kuhlka of Hewitt.
She was preceded in death by her father Stanley Fait and her mother-in-law Darlene Katschke.
