Joseph Michael Weber of 1022 South Lincoln Ave., Marshfield, WI died at age 89 on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at House of the Dove surrounded and comforted by his family.
Joseph was born on September 11, 1926 and was the youngest son of John P. and Margaret (Feess) Weber. He attended Sacred Heart School in Marshfield through the 8th grade and then spent the rest of his working career farming at Weber farm on the west side of Marshfield. The farm was purchased in 1904 by his grandparents, Peter and Elizabeth (Redig) Weber in 1904.
He was united in marriage on June 16, 1948 at Christ the King Church, Spencer, WI to Bernadine F. Bauer. To this union five children were born; Carol J. Tomke, Patricia A. (Jim) Binder, Joel R. (Marlene) Weber, Joellen J. (Ken) Heiman and David P. (Denise) Weber. Joe and Bernadine spent their working lives farming at the Weber farm. In 1955, they established Weber's Farm Store, a retail dairy business, which continues to thrive today. Weber's Farm was purchased by Ken (Joellen), Kim (Cheryl) and Kalvin (Marilyn) Heiman and their wives in 1995 and is currently a Weber/Heiman families 5th generation operation. Joe officially retired from farming at age 76.
Joe was lovingly referred to as "Papa Joe" to his family and friends. He was very creative and skilled at repairing and maintaining farm related equipment, managing crops and a dairy herd. Joe and Bernadine were world travelers and also enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends. He also was an avid sportsmen and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting, bagging his last deer at age 88. Joe enjoyed card playing, dancing in his earlier years, gardening, socializing with his family and many friends. He was an excellent bowler and was on a league for several years until February, 2016, at the age of 89.
Joe and Bernadine were financially supportive of many Marshfield community advancements including Marshfield Clinic and House of the Dove. They were especially proud of the establishment of the Joe and Bernadine Weber Nature Park at West 5th St. They purchased wooded acreage at the west side of Marshfield and collaborated with the city of Marshfield to give the community an additional area to enjoy nature. They were active church members at Our Lady of Peace throughout their entire married life. Also, he was active in the community and served on the Board of Directors for Mid-State Technical College. During the span of his working career, Joe received many awards and honors related to farming and his many agricultural accomplishments.
Joseph was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bernadine F. (Bauer) Weber. He is also survived by his children, Carol J. Tomke, Patricia A. (Jim) Binder, Joellen J. (Ken) Heiman, and David P. (Denise) Weber; grandchildren, Tara L. (Matt) Maertens, Tanya L. (Nate) Brown, Allison L. (Jeremy Boettcher) Binder, Michelle L. Heiman, Ryan P. (Amanda) Heiman, Josh K. Heiman (fiancée Heather Sternweis), Sarah E. (Nick) Slipka, Renee M. (Brad) Wojciechowski, Scott J. Weber, Cody D. Weber, Brad R. Weber, Eric J. Weber, Laura S. Weber; step-grandchildren, Evan J. and Eric J. Salisbury, Beth J. (Josh) Wilatoski; great-grandchildren, Jacob A. Maertens, Christopher M. Maertens, Megan A. Maertens, Bradley J. Maertens, Olivia G. Brown, Jaedyn J. Kmiec, Brooklyn J. Kmiec, Tyler R. Heiman, Samuel J. Heiman, Eileigh E. Heiman, Graysen H. Slipka, Hannah M. Slipka, Emerson J. Wojciechowski, Campbell M. Wojciechowski; step-great-grandchildren, James A. Scheel, Julia A. Wilatoski; sisters-in-law , Eileen (Bauer) Weber, Iris (Voelker) Bauer; brother- and sister-in-law, Allan and Carol Bauer; daughter-in-law, Marlene (Spindler) Weber.
Joseph was preceded in death by his son, Joel R. Weber; parents, John P. and Margaret (Fees) Weber; father- and mother-in-law, Oscar G. and Laura (Litka) Bauer; five siblings, Elizabeth/Betty (Jerome) Hoffman, Eugene (Ann Ertl) Weber, Sister Lorraine Weber SSNN, Peter Weber, Caroline Weber; granddaughter, Jessica L. Binder, daughter of Jim and Patricia Binder.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Rembs Funeral Home and from 9:30 am on Tuesday until service time at Our Lady of Peace Church. A celebration of life and Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Peace, 1414 W. 5th St., at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. A Knights of Columbus Rosary service will be held on Monday at 7:30 pm at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow at the Marshfield Eagles Club and burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The Joseph Weber family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the many health care professionals for their compassionate care given to Joseph at Marshfield Clinic, Ministry St. Joseph's, House of the Dove, 3 Oaks and Atrium Post Acute Care throughout his journey, including the easing of his struggles with health issues. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Joseph's memory to support the Marshfield Chapter of Future Farmers of America.
