John E. McQuillen, 67 of Marshfield, died on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Ministry St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30am Thursday, August 18, 2011 at St. Johns Catholic Church with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Gigi Plautz along with St. Johns Funeral Choir will provide the music for the service. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with Phil White, Doug Haupt, Ray Smith, Jim Thiel, Rory Retterath and David Svejda serving as pallbearers. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post # 54 of Marshfield. Visitations will be on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Rembs Funeral Home and again on Thursday at the church from 9:30 am until time of the service. There will be a 4pm prayer service at the funeral home on Wednesday. John was born on September 28, 1943 in LaCrosse to Leo and Gertrude (Glynn) McQuillen. After his graduation from LaCrosse Aquinas High School, John enlisted in the United State Navy serving from November 30, 1961 until his honorable discharge on August 30, 1963. John was hired by Wausau Hospital and later St. Josephs Hospital where he worked as an orderly and later a nursing assistant. He enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and friends, was an avid Brewer and Packer fan, loving reading military history, and also enjoyed his pets. John was a devoted friend, father and grandfather. He was also a humble, self-less person who was always thinking of the betterment of others. John took life in stride and took the best out of every situation and thought the best of everyone he met. He will be dearly missed. He was united in marriage to Shirley A. Pospyhalla on August 20, 1970 in Wausau. John is survived by his wife Shirley, children Edward (Lonnie) McQuillen of Marshfield, Brenda (Steve) Konrardy of Auburndale, Phillip (Amy) McQuillen of Stevens Point, Theresa (Anthony) Bouffiou of Madison and Shawn McQuillen of Madison, 10 grandchildren. He is further survived by one brother Paul (Karen) McQuillen of Chicago. John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Donald and Kenneth McQuillen and two sisters Lorraine Siebert and Cathy Kamman. Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
