Obituary

John W. Hutter, 88, Spencer, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the home of his daughter, Deb, in the Town of Cleveland, Marathon County. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer, with Rev. Barry Saylor officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield where military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1866. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Tuesday at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from 9:30 am until service time at Christ the King Catholic Church. A parish rosary service will be at 5:30 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. John was born on July 24, 1933 in the Town of Cary, Wood County, to William and Elizabeth (Ressler) Hutter. He was a 1951 graduate of Granton High School. After his education he proudly served in the United States Navy from May 26, 1951 until his honorable discharge on June 2, 1954. He enjoyed his time stationed in Jacksonville, FL and Iceland. After discharge from the Navy he worked at the GM auto plant in Janesville before returning to central Wisconsin. John was a Business Agent and Regional Vice President for the International Woodworks of America and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He was an advocate for better working conditions, wages and fair disciplinary processes for employees. He married Roselene M. Hofmann, the love of his life for 62 years, on April 23, 1956 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. She died on April 4, 2018. John was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer since 1960. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved deer hunting season. He looked forward to it every year. We would all pile into the car to go shining deer each year. He also enjoyed time up north fishing. He looked forward to every spring when he could plant his garden. He loved all vegetables, but sweet corn was his absolute favorite. He always placed family first and Christmas was always a special time. He loved having the whole family together. He was our rock. He is survived by his daughters, Deb (Maurice) Hager, Stratford, Diane Trachte, Dawn (Ralph) Schafer, all of Spencer and Denise (David) Collinson, Marshfield and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Hutter of Oregon, WI. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Bryce (Jen) Menacher, Karissa Menacher, Angela Hardesty, Taylor (Tom) Schafer, Logan Schafer, Rhys Schafer, Alicia Hutter, Jessica Hutter, Samantha (Frank) Smilgis and David Cobb, and 16 great grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother-in-law, Floyd Kumm, Pittsville and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Robert Hofmann, Marshfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Hutter and Elizabeth Baltus, his stepfather, Elmer Baltus, his wife, Roselene, an infant son, David and sons, Dale and Tim Hutter, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Tuggle, brothers, Harold and Wayne Hutter, sisters, Beatrice Sojka, Gladys Wolf, Dolores Kumm and Dorothy Smith and a brother-in-law, James Hofmann.
