Obituary

John J. Hartl, 92, Marshfield, passed away at his home and joined his wife in heaven on Saturday, October 17, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 26, 2015 at St. John's Catholic Church. Rev. Samuel Martin will officiate and Suzanne Golden will be organist for St. John's Church Choirs. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday at Rembs Funeral Home and from 9:30 am on Monday until service time at St. John's Catholic Church. A combined St. John's Parish and Knights of Columbus rosary service will be held at 6:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. John was born on March 3, 1923 in Park Falls to Peter and Mary (Hauptman) Hartl. As a child he moved with his parents to Marshfield in 1931. He was a 1941 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth F. "Betty" Hartl on June 14, 1944 at St. John's Catholic Church. She died on August 7, 2007. In 1950 John and Betty moved into their first and only home that John built along with the help of his father, where they raised their 8 children. John was employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory in Marshfield for 23 years and then at the University of Wisconsin Marshfield/Wood County for 24 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, The Holy Name Society, and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus John Eisen Council #1799. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling and golfing. John was known for his sense of humor which has been passed on to his children and grandchildren in the form of "Johnny jokes". He is survived by 8 children, Teresa (Frank) Bayuk of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, Joan (Dan) Spencer of Marshfield, Carol (Richard) Rogers of Fennimore, Janet (Michael) Wright of Cottage Grove, Donna (Robert) Jensen of Sun Prairie, Alan (Cathy) Hartl of Collegeville, PA, Joseph (Mary) Hartl of Mokena, IL, and Clarence (Mary) Hartl of Marshfield. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister Agnes (Eckes) Waterman of Milwaukee. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, a grandson, Jason Hartl, and brothers Rudy and Clarence Hartl.
