Joan E. Sickler, 76 of Marshfield died peacefully surrounded by her family at home on Friday, July 19, 2013 under the care of Ministry Home Hospice. Joan was born on October 27, 1936 in Mt. Vernon, WA to Maurice and Edna 'Elaine' (Besgrove) Richards. She graduated from Burlington Edison High School in Burlington, WA in 1954. On April 12, 1956 she entered the United States Air Force in Seattle WA and was an administrative assistant until her honorable discharge on August 28, 1958 in Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was united in marriage to George L. Sickler on May 3, 1958 at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. They lived in various parts of the United States while her husband George was in the United States Navy and Washington State Patrol. They retired to Marshfield in 1998 to be near their children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Alan Sickler of Las Vegas, Cheryl (Krishna) Swamy of Marshfield, Kevin Sickler of Marshfield and Pam (Todd) Josiger of Merrill; eight grandchildren, Melinda (Casey) Anderson, Christopher Byrne, Elizabeth Willfahrt, Jessica Jardine, Kaisi Jardine, Dakota Ress, Tara Josiger and Jake Josiger; 10 great grandchildren. She is further survived by four brothers, Jack Richards of Palm Spring, CA, John (Colleen) Richards of Tukwila, WA, Richard (Leora) Richards of Thief River Falls, MN, David (Ida) Richards of Bellingham, WA and one sister Roberta (Duane) Symonds of Bonney Lake, WA. Besides her parents and husband George, she was preceded in death by a brother William Richards and a sister Anita Savitz. Memorial services will be 11am Saturday, July 27, 2013 Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield with Rev. Mark A. Krueger officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery alongside her husband George, who passed away on October 31, 2012. There will be military rites provided by United States Air Force military honors detail. Family will receive relatives and friends from 10am until time of service Saturday at Rembs Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital 8th floor, Ministry Home Hospice and Dr. William Hocking for the respect and care given to Joan in her final days.
