Joan M. Fait, 85, Marshfield, passed away peacefully with family at her side, on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Marshfield Medical Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 am on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Daniel Sedlacek officiating. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and from 10:30 am on Thursday until service time at Our Lady of Peace Church. Our Lady of Peace Parish Council of Catholic Women and Lady Knights rosary service will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Joan was born at home in the Town of Richfield, Wood County, on October 3, 1932 to Rollo and Theresa (Weis) Welch. She attended Long School in the Town of Richfield, Sacred Heart Parochial School and was a 1950 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School.
She was united in marriage to Stanley E. Fait Jr. on May 14, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. He died on May 16, 2001. In addition to being a housewife and mother, Joan had been employed as a clerk and cashier at F.W. Woolworth Company in Marshfield from 1949 until 1956 and did home babysitting for many years. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, past president and circle chairman of the P.C.C.W., the Lady Knights of which she had served as secretary, the United Commercial Travelers Auxiliary of which she was chaplain for many years and the Marshfield Eagles Club Auxiliary.
Joan is survived by her children, Nancy (Leon) LeClair of Two Rivers, Mike (Gayle) Fait of Marshfield, Linda (Dan) Neve of Marshfield, Patty (Jim) Shaw of Marshfield, Mary Lou (Rich) Volk of Arpin and Kathy (Tony) Kuhlka of Hewitt. She is also survived by sons-in-law, Darrell Gates of Pittsville and Eric Mixdorf of Denver, IA and 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister, Clara Lou (Jerry) Sauer of West DePere, sisters-in-law, Bernice Welch and Mona Fait, brothers-in-law, Vernon (Adeline) Fait, Marvin (Jane) Fait and Denny (Carol) Fait.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and twin daughters, Karen Gates and Sharon Mixdorf, brothers, DuWayne, Jerry (Donna) Welch and Orman Joe Welch, a sister, Iris (Jerry) Guensburg, sister-in-law, Pat (Davis) Welch, brother-in-law, Donald Fait and special friend, Elmer Ploog.
The family will designate a memorial in Joan's name at a later date.
