Jerome P. Kirsch, 85 of Marshfield died at his home surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren on Sunday, June 28, 2015.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at St. John's Catholic Church of Marshfield with Father Sam Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Suzanne Golden along with both the Adult Choir and Funeral Choir will provide the music. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Visitations will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield and the next morning at 9:30 a.m. until the service at the church. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Jerome was born on August 7, 1929 in the town of Cleveland, Marathon County to Peter and Katherine (Kaiser) Kirsch. He was raised on a farm in rural Stratford with three brothers and five sisters and attended St. Joseph's School in Stratford, WI and graduated from high school in 1948. In 1952, he was married to Mary Lou Nikolai at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield. He farmed with his brother in Stratford and also worked for Equity Livestock Sales. In 1954, Jerome and Mary Lou bought a farm in rural Marshfield and he continued to work at Equity Livestock until 1959. He continued to farm until 1962 when he sold the cattle and started working for House of Heating for 8 years. He then worked in Sheet Metal Local Union #18 in Marshfield and Wausau for 24 years, retiring in 1992. Jerome then worked part-time doing maintenance at the Comfort Inn. He completely retired in 2000 allowing he and Mary Lou to travel to Arizona for the winters. Jerome enjoyed attending daily mass, wood working projects, playing cards with his friends, watching the Brewers and Packers, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a Knights of Columbus member and also sang in St. John's choir. He lived in Marshfield until his death.
Jerome was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife, Mary Lou and his five children: Dan of Annandale, VA, Sue (Steve) Wolf of Gilbert, AZ, Tom (Cindy) Kirsch of Marshfield, WI, Beth (Rob) Wickersham of Spencer, WI and Kathy (Gary) Korn of Westby, WI. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren: Corrine Kirsch, Nick (Katie) Wolf, Andy (Kristi) Busscher along with their daughter, Rylea, Shannon (Derrick) Fallon, Tina Wolf, Trisha (Adam) Schonfeldt along with their children, Taylor, Cooper and Parker, Katie (Jeremy) Powell along with their son, Noah, Samantha Korn, Sadie Korn and Garrison Korn. He also has 2 step grandchildren, Ashley and Brandon Wickersham. Jerome is further survived by one brother, Leander (Joan) Kirsch, one sister, Helen Hoff, one sister-in-law, Rita Kirsch and one brother-in-law, Sylvester Vandeloo along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Katherine Kirsch, siblings: Lillian (Ben) Knoeck, Hillary (Mary) Kirsch, Lucille (Frank) Lubner, Cyrilla Kirsch, Roland Kirsch, Marian Vandeloo, and Marjorie and Raymond Kirsch in infancy.

The family would like to thank all the wonderful physicians, nurses and staff on 7N and the hospice staff that assisted with his care.
Our family was blessed to have this extraordinary man who shaped our lives with his selflessness, kind heart, love for others, unwavering patience and his beautiful voice. We hope that we can all live "Saint Jerome's" legacy. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
