Jeanne Elizabeth (Hills) Mortvedt, 98, went to heaven on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Oakwood Villa, Altoona, Wisconsin.
Jeanne was born on January 12, 1920 to Clinton B. and Amanda E. (Olson) Hills in Aurora, Illinois, where she graduated from East Aurora High School and then went to work for the city of Aurora.
Jeanne married Verne A. Mortvedt Sr. on May 2, 1942. After a honeymoon in northern Wisconsin they moved to Gardner, Illinois to farm and start a family. They moved back to Aurora in 1945. In 1957, now with 5 children, built a home in rural Naperville, Illinois. Ten years later they moved to Chili, Wisconsin where they farmed and retired in the Marshfield area. Verne and Jeanne were married 69 years. Jeanne has lived in Eau Claire since 2015.
Jeanne was a stay at home Mom for many years. She did a lot of volunteering and was active in their church. She was a member of PTA, church circles, Sons of Norway, Ferry Road Club, County Homemakers, Farm Bureau and was a 4-H leader.
Her goal was to live to be 100. She was so proud to be 98 and never hesitated to tell doctors, nurses, aids, receptionists, clerks, and anyone who might like to know. Bless her heart she almost made her goal.
St. Olaf Lutheran Church was their church home while living in Aurora, Illinois. Trinity Lutheran Church, Warrenville, Illinois was their church when living in Naperville. Moving to Wisconsin, they were long time members at Grace Lutheran Church in Nasonville, Wisconsin and the sister church of Faith Lutheran Church of Marshfield, Wisconsin.
A visitation will be at Grace Lutheran Church, Nasonville, on Monday, March 5, 2018 from 10:00 am until service time at 11:00 am. Rev. Gisele Bernhinghaus, Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will take place in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Jeanne is survived by her 5 children, Bonnie Berger (Jim Origer), Aurora, IL; Verne Jr. (Dawn) Mortvedt, Stratford, WI; Barbara (Allen) Strey, Eau Claire, WI; Eric Mortvedt, Green Bay, WI; and Jon (Sandi) Mortvedt, Marshfield, WI. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, William Berger, Kissimee, FL; JeAnne (Dave) Neidra, West Chicago, IL; Jeff (Aggie) Berger, Aurora, IL; Karissa (Rick) Rudow, Plano, IL; Craig (Cheryl) Mortvedt, Mount Horeb, WI; Brian (Jernny) Mortvedt, Hewitt, WI; Amber (Pat) DeRosier, Barneveld, WI; Steven (Leslie) Strey, Foster, WI; Andrew (Jessie) Strey, Fall Creek, WI; Timothy (Lindsay) Strey, Trempleau, WI; Stacey (Mike Mueller) Mortvedt, DePere, WI; Heather (Chris) Stuedmann, Oshkosh, WI; Erin (Jason) Wescott, Covington, GA; Josh Mortvedt, Marshfield, WI; and Noah Mortvedt, Marshfield, WI, and 23 great grandchildren. She is further survived by 2 brothers, Richard (Gert) Hills and Donald Hills, both of Aurora, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband Verne A. Mortvedt Sr., her parents, Clinton and Amanda Hills, her stepfather, Peter Schwartz, her sister, Betty (Hills) Stallman and her brother, Howard Hills.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
