Obituary

James G. Parish, 86, died on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Marshfield Care Center. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida at a later date. Jim was born on March 31, 1927 in St. Petersburg, FL to Archie G. and Alma (Grawunder) Parish of Driftwood neighborhood and was a graduate of St. Petersburg High School. He then chose to honorably serve his country enlisting in the United States Army in 1944. He served as rifleman and later re-enlisted to serve as sergeant in counter intelligence after completing course work at the European Theater Intelligence School in Oberammergau Germany during World War II. After his return to the United States he attended the University of Florida in Gainesville where he was a member of Sigma Tau Fraternity and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He began his career working for Dupont and then later opened up a private consulting firm in St. Petersburg to work alongside his father, Archie Parish, architect who was instrumental in the development of St. Petersburg in the 1950's and 60's. James was later forced into early retirement due to illness moving close to family in Cullman, Alabama, for the past 15 years, and with his last few months in Wisconsin where he died peacefully. James never married, living most of his life with his parents and family. He is survived by a sister, Nancy Parish Lair Ziegler of Auburn, Alabama, a brother, Richard Parish of Clearwater, Florida, a niece Lynne (Lee) McDonald of Pittsville, WI, 2 great nephews, Nick and Cory Graham, of Alabama, and a great niece, Lindsey Graham of Wisconsin.
