James C. Hertel, 92 of Milladore, died on Wednesday morning, September 26, 2012 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30am Monday, October 1, 2012 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Fr. John Ofori-Domah officiating. Catherine Warnecke along with St. Wenceslaus Senior Choir will provide the music for the service. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 468 of Milladore. Visitations will be from 9:30am until time of services at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church on Monday. Martens/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Jim was born on July 23, 1920 to Jacob and Elizabeth (Steffes) Hertel in Stockbridge, WI. He was united in marriage to Lillian C. Hardina on September 24, 1941 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Milladore. She passed away on October 9, 1987. Jim served in the United States Army during World War II from February 17, 1945 until his honorable discharge on January 20, 1946. He was a cheese maker and grader for various cheese plants in central Wisconsin. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council # 4646 of Junction City. He is survived by his children, David (Ellen) Hertel of Parker, CO, Donald (Jackie) Hertel of Stevens Point, Richard Hertel of Savoy, IL, James B. (Laura) Hertel of Columbia, MO; 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren He is further survived by one sister, Sister Romona Hertel, OFS of Milwaukee. Besides his parents and wife Lillian he was preceded in death by a daughter Joanne, six brothers, Anthony, Francis, Leo, William, Gordon and Brother Norbert Hertel,SVD; two sisters Sister Muriel Hertel, OFS and Marie Cherney.
