James R. Carlson, 79, of Pittsville, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Marshfield Medical Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Pittsville with a visitation from 9:00 am until service time. Father Nathan will officiate. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes.
Burial will follow at the parish cemetery in Pittsville, where full military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #153 - Pittsville.
James was born on February 9, 1944, in Arpin, to John and Monica (Mayer) Carlson. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and following his honorable discharge, worked at Consolidated Papers for many years after which he worked at Wisconsin Homes until his retirement.
Jim had many hobbies, but mostly he loved family get togethers. He was at every party, wedding and especially the Carlson Christmas party. You would never see him miss his favorite family dish, the Sweedish kroppkakor. He would not miss a party unless he was hunting big buck. His true passion in life was hunting, if he wasn't hunting deer, he was hunting turkey. He also loved going to the casino with his brother Ron.
He is survived by his children, Jim (Lori) Carlson of Wisconsin Rapids, and Amy (Dean) Cepress of Auburndale and his grandsons Allen of Auburndale and Brandon of Wisconsin Rapids
He is further survived by siblings, Ron (Kathy) Carlson of Pittsville, Gary (Cathy) Carlson of Auburndale, Dave (Sue) Carlson of Marshfield, Bob (Rosie) Carlson of Arpin, Ed (Lois) Carlson of Marshfield, Caroline (Kenny) Wunrow of Marshfield, Jenny (Pat) Halpin of Loyal, Bonnie (Lyle) Ress of Marshfield, Tammy Carlson (Ron Rizzi) of Spencer and Scott Carlson of Spencer and his sister-in-law Judy Carlson, and brothers-in-law, Roman Bredl, Bill Tobin, and Mike Feirer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Monica Carlson, brother John "Butch" Carlson Jr., sisters, Bertha Carlson, Lillian Bredl, Shirley Tobin and Kathleen Feirer.
