Obituary

James Edwin Bryant, 74, Marshfield, passed away Tuesday morning, September 20, 2011 at home in the Town of Rock. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Jon Guenther officiating. Burial will take place in Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Town of Richfield, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield, and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Friday from 10:00 am until service time, all at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. James was born on June 10, 1937 in Ladysmith to Ernest and Madeline (Peterson) Bryant. He grew up in Illinois and later as a teenager moved to Marshfield. On January 3, 1959 he married Rae Joanne Wolff at Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield. He entered the United States Army in 1956 at Ft. Leonardwood, MO. He then transferred to Ft. Carson, CO where he trained the 1st set of Green Berets. He spent two and a half years in Germany and then returned to Ft. Riley, KS. He was honorably discharged in June of 1962. He was baptized into Christ in Illinois and confirmed in Manhattan, KS. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Jim worked various jobs including Clark Gas Station, Weyerhaeuser, and Wick Building Systems. He also farmed and drove semi as an owner/operator and for other companies. He retired in 1998 after twenty plus years of driving semi over the road. He along with Rae, were 4-H leaders and they did foster care for eight teenage boys. He had a passion for deer hunting and storytelling. (BS) He is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Rae Joanne and their nine children, Steven Bryant, Marshfield, Theresa (Roger) Werstovshek, Loyal, Joseph Bryant, Dorchester, Peggy (Bryan) Hoffarth, Granton, Edwin (Michelle) Bryant, Medford, Mary (Corey) Kurz, Pittsville, Sally (Eric Thums) Bryant, Arbor Vitae, Richard (Robin) Bryant, Antigo, Jane (Mathew) Huber, Vesper, and his faithful dog, "Boots". He is also survived by twenty five grandchildren, Amanda (Jason)Koopman, Elisha (James) Weinfurtner, Dakota Knetter, Heather Prust, Charlotte (Craig) Suda, Brandi Werstovshek, Joshua Werstovshek, Lindsey Bryant, airman, Ashley Bryant, Caryn (Matthew) Van Pietersom, Evan Hoffarth, Zachary Hoffarth, Taylor Bryant, Naomi (Kevin) Kissane, Dylan Rudie, Christina Kurz, Natasha Kurz, Tenton Bryant, Dustin Manlick, AnnaMarie Bryant, Kari Bryant, Phillip Kuehn, Mark Kuehn, Eric Huber, Miranda Huber,and eleven great grandchildren. He is further survived by his siblings, Ralph (Donna) Bryant, Marshfield, Beverly Kortner, Macheseny Park, IL, Alma (Ray) Benzschawel, Pittsville, Gerald (Barbara) Bryant, Marshfield, a brother-in-law, Gil Ulrich, Prescott, AR, and a sister-in-law, Ila (Walter) Theisen, Stratford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Madeline Bryant, in-laws, Otto and Rozella Wolff, a sister, Darlene Ulrich and a sister-in-law, Beverly Brooks. The family will designate a memorial in his name at a later date.
