Harry D. Ploog, 93, Marshfield, died on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Marshfield Care Center. Funeral services will be 11am Monday, July 11, 2011 at Rembs Funeral Home in Marshfield with Rev. Mark A. Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the Town of Richfield Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post # 54 of Marshfield at the funeral home. Visitations will be on Monday from 10am until time of service at Rembs Funeral Home. Harry was born on October 2, 1917 in Davenport, Iowa to Henry and Lillie (Niemann) Ploog. The family moved to Marshfield when he was an infant. He attended Marshfield and Granton Elementary Schools and worked as a milk hauler for the Neillsville Dairy. Harry served in the United States Army during World War II from March 3, 1942 until his honorable discharge on January 19, 1946. He married Vivian Woolstrum on July 28, 1945 at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Marshfield. She died on November 23, 2004. They were life-long residents of Bakerville and Marshfield. Harry was employed after his marriage at Blum Brothers Box Factory and later retired from Mall Furniture in Marshfield. Survivors include four siblings, Anna (Verlyn) Schnabel of Marshfield, Wilma Boulieu of Marshfield, Ervin (Jan) Ploog of Marshfield and Elmer Ploog of Cumberland, 10 nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings, Fred, Roy, Ralph, Betty and Virgil Ploog; one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
