Obituary

Harold E. "Shorty" Wechorek, 88 of Marshfield, died on Tuesday evening, June 7, 2011 at the Palliative Care Unit at Ministry St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 am Friday, June 10, 2011 at Our Lady of peace Catholic Church with Rev. Don Meuret officiating. Gigi Plautz and Michael Gonering will provide the music for the services. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post # 54 of Marshfield. Dymond Zupanc, John Berg, John Staab, Thomas Schneider, Ronald Berry and Dana Scidmore will serve as pallbearers. Visitations will be on Friday at the church from 9:30 am until time of the services. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Harold was born on June 25, 1922 in Marshfield to John and Mary (Zenner) Wechorek. He was united in marriage to Lillian M. Berg on May 26, 1951 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield. Bud was employed by Weinbrenner Shoe Factory and Praschak Block Factory before enlisting in the United States Navy on October 1942. He served aboard the USS Tazewell troop transport heading to the South Pacific and later transferred to the USS Token, a minesweeping vessel. After his military service, he was employed at Pritzl Hardware for two years then began employment with the United States Post Office. Bud was a city carrier, retiring as the longest employee of the Marshfield Postal Service in 1979. During his military service, Bud was a cook which got him involved with cooking at the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady of Peace Venison Feeds for 42 years. Bud was a member of the American Legion Post 54 and their Firing Squad, OLP Boy Scout Leader, Gate of Heaven Cemetery Board, Columbus High School Band President, National Association of Letter Carriers, and Catholic Order of Foresters and was the first pizza delivery person for Dominos Pizza. He is survived by his wife Lillian at the Marshfield Care Center, children, Kathleen (Tim) Englebretson of Rozellville, Nancy (James) Brost of Marshfield, Lynnette Wechorek of Denver, CO, and Alan (Katherine) Wechorek of Auburndale; five grandchildren, Dana Scidmore, Kimberly Scidmore, Chelsea Zupanc, Kiel Ludke and Adam Wechorek; five great grandchildren, Dymond, Kadine, Jack, Kyra and Ashton. Besides his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sister Irene Staab.
