Obituary

Harold O. Prechel, 98, Marshfeld, died on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Bethel Center in Arpin. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 21, 2015 at Rembs Funeral Home, with Rev. Andrew Wilson officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Merrill. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Thursday from 9:30 am until service time at Rembs Funeral Home. Harold Oliver Prechel was born on May 11, 1917 in Spencer, Wisconsin to Otto and Theresa (Zempel) Prechel and was a 1931 graduate of Spencer High School. He married Eunice E. Hackbart on October 23, 1943 at Zion Lutheran Church in Wausau and they had 7 sons. Harold and Eunice farmed west of Spencer. Eunice died in 1975. Harold later married Margaret "Marge" L. Derfus on July 23, 1977. He retired from farming in 1980 and he and Marge moved to Marshfield where they resided for over 25 years. Marge died in 2010. Harold served a number of local and area boards and organizations during his years as an active farmer. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Spencer State Bank for 25 years, served as president of the Parent/Teacher Association of Spencer Public Schools for 2 terms, president of Tri-County Parent-Teacher Association Council, member of the Spencer Public School Board for 4 years, vice president and president of the board of the Spencer Farmers' Cooperative for 12 years and the Board of Christian Education at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer for 2 terms. In retirement he enjoyed gardening and travelling as well as the changing seasons at his cottage in northern Wisconsin. After a stroke in May 2007, Harold was confined to nursing homes in Marshfield and Arpin. He is survived by his 7 sons, Ronald Prechel of Alexandria, MN, Dennis Prechel of Livonia, MI, Steven (Sue) Prechel of Getzville, NY, David (Nancy) Prechel of Hillsboro, John Prechel of Eau Claire, James Prechel of San Diego, CA, and Thomas Prechel of Media, PA. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Kristine (Jered) Fitch, Nicholas Prechel, Michael (Caitlin Hayes) Prechel, Lisa (Timothy Gluth) Prechel, Ryan (Cassandra) Prechel, Lori Prechel, and John Prechel and 8 great grandchildren, Carter, Cooper, Carson, Abby, Brock, Olivia, Oliver and Ofelia. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Bethel Center in Arpin for the conscientious and quality care given to Harold during his years as resident there.
