Harold Phillip Custer, 91, of Stratford passed away Tuesday May 20th, 2014 at his residence.
He was born September 14th, 1922 to the late Bhurnard and Bertha (Hoefs) and Nora Custer. Harold attended Stratford High School and Vocational School of Wausau. He worked in North Dakota for Hank Trester, combining wheat fields. He then returned to Stratford and took over the family farm where he loved working the land and milking cows, and cooking maple syrup, until finally retiring at the age of 90.
He attended Calvary Bible Church in Marshfield until recently returning to Community Bible Church in Stratford where they had been married, 69 years ago.
He is survived by Imogene Custer (Winistorfer). They were married March 3rd, 1945 and are survived by children Larry, living in Stratford, Kay (Bob) Paul living in Wausau, and Jon living in Stratford. Harold has 7 grandchildren, Valerie (Tim) McMeeken, Carla (Tim) Ellenbecker, Tracey (Corey) Nehls, Todd Paul, Tara (David) Dicus, Eric Custer, and Tyler Custer. He also has 9 great grandchildren, Sylvia and Daniel McMeeken, Lily and Nova Ellenbecker, Shelby and Lindsay Nehls, Grace and Levi Dicus, and Zach Paul. Harold also has a sister, Doris Telshow, living in Wausau.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Bernice Gereau.
Funeral services will be at 5:00 pm on Friday, May 23rd, 2014 at Community Bible Church, Stratford, with Pastor Bill Nesbitt officiating. The visitation will be held from 3:30 pm until service time at Community Bible Church, Stratford. Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be grandsons of Harold, Cory Nehls, Todd Paul, Tim McMeeken, Tim Ellenbecker, David Dicus, Eric Custer, and Tyler Custer.
We would like to thank Ministry Home Care for assisting Harold in his last days. Dads great sense of humor will be missed but heaven will be welcoming it.
