Gordon Thomas Schwartz was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 3, 1936 to Thomas and Sylvia (Wollenzien) Schwartz. He spent his summers on Wind Lake with his two uncles and enjoyed sailing, ice skating, and fishing. As a teenager and young adult, he enjoyed rebuilding hot rods. He served as the president of the Pace Setters Car Club in Milwaukee for five years.
Gordy graduated from Milwaukee Boy's Tech High School in 1956 with a goal of becoming a wood pattern maker. He served his apprenticeship under Frank Kuras and accomplished his goal by the age of 23. He worked at State Pattern in Milwaukee from 1955 until 1971 when the shop closed. He then continued his work as a wood pattern maker at Waukesha Pattern, where he worked until his retirement in 1999. As a woodworker, he was known for his top-quality craftsmanship and amazing accuracy. As a man, he was known for his kindness and generosity.
He married Bonnie King on June 11, 1960 and had two daughters, Kari born in 1963 and Tammy born in 1966. He was also happy to be "Papa" to two beautiful granddaughters, McKenna and Paige Dietze.
Even in retirement, Gordy continued to pursue his love of woodworking. He moved to Marshfield after selling his home in 1999. He set up his own wood shop in the basement and made many beautiful pieces of furniture for family, friends, and his church.
Gordy is lovingly survived by his daughters, Kari (Schwartz) and Dale Dietze of Milwaukee, and Tammy Schwartz of Marshfield; grandchildren, McKenna and Paige Dietze of Milwaukee, Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law, Sharie and Gerald Sorano of Dousman, WI, cousins, nieces, and other family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Sylvia Schwartz, and his wife, Bonnie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church Children's Ministries (these donations will be shared between ministries that were near and dear to Gordy's heart including Vacation Bible School, P.U.P.P.E.T.S., Sunday School, and the Sunday School Children's Christmas Program).
