Obituary

Glenn was born September 25th, 1940, in Sterling, ILL to the late Ben and Hazel Hartman. Glenn was the third son born into the family. Don and Robert were his older brothers. Glenn's sister Karen (Robert) Todd joined the family after the family moved to Iowa.

While living in Iowa Glenn went to school in Alta, Iowa. During his high school career Glenn met his best and lifelong friend, Dick Schmidt. Glenn was also involved in track where he was able to beat many school and state records. He enjoyed telling his grandchildren the stories from his track days. Glenn also attended business college in Oklahoma.

After graduation Glenn's family moved to Wisconsin where he met the love of his life Sally (Hall). Sally has always teased that Glenn had to move to Wisconsin to meet the right girl! Glenn and Sally were married Nov. 13th, 1965. They proceeded to have three children: Michal, Jeffry, and his bestest birthday gift… his daughter, Hether. They shared 34 years of birthdays. The Hartman family operated the family farm in Auburndale, WI until the late 1990's. They still live in the family house and enjoy their beautiful yard and flowers.

Glenn and Sally have enjoyed spending time and supporting their seven grandchildren; Benjamin, Jonathan (Tiffany), Steven (Kate), Bethany, Jarred, Joshua, and Lucie (Coltan). Oh, the laughs that have been shared over the years! We will forever treasure the memories of the many cow shows, baseball games, high school activities, and the many hours spent playing card games, no cheating was ever allowed… ha ha and we always played by grandma's rules… NOT. Over the past few years, they have also enjoyed their great-grandchildren; Bentley, Jack, and Oakllynn. Bentley and grandpa had a special bond with building and using tools.

Glenn worked for People State Bank for 10 years out of Arpin, WI. Glenn was the Chair for the Arpin Centennial in 1973. He shared many wonderful stories about the centennial with his family over the years. He even grew a beard and had hair!

While running the family farm Glenn went into the insurance business which he owned and operated until the time of his death. While working in the Insurance Business Glenn made many wonderful friends over the years, many of which he treasured so very deeply. One of the men that he treasured was his office partner and dear friend, Scott Paterick. They officed together from 1997 till his time of death. They shared many road trips, business trips, and lunches together and whether they were talking about business or personal issues they always loved their fellowship together. Thank you for this Scott!

Glenn loved the Lord and was saved on May 18th, 1982. Glenn was a member of the Crossroads Church in Pittsville, WI. He served as Church Chairman and Elder for many years. He was the head of the building committee and was part of the Nail Benders. This group traveled south to help build churches. He met some amazing people, and he always enjoyed these trips.

Before closing we need to share the unique and special friendship Glenn had with his lifelong friend, Dick Schmit. When Glenn moved to Wisconsin Dick and Glenn made sure that their friendship overcame the miles between them. They had always been there for each other whether it was for a wedding, a special occasion with their kids, or just because they had not seen each other in a few months. Our two families spent many summer vacations together, one trip to Wisconsin and one to Iowa. The two men enjoyed many hours of playing golf together, talking about farming (the ups and the downs), and playing cards with their wives. Somehow the men won more than the women… the woman always said the men cheated but they always denied it. Hmmm… the world may never know! Over the years the visits have gotten further and further apart but the friendship had gotten stronger and stronger. They would call each other almost every night and they always made time for each other when one or the other was having a bad day. They knew how to encourage each other even with so many miles between them. Glenn even made sure to call his best friend the night before he passed to tell him how much he loved him, and he couldn't wait to spend time together in Heaven. They even decided who was bringing the cribbage board and the deck of cards. They decided that Glenn would bring the cribbage board.

Glenn was such a strong and loving man. He always made sure his family and friends were taken care of even if it was in his own special way. Even at the end he found the strength to call all of his grandchildren to tell them goodbye and how much he loved them and how proud of them he was. He also called his sister Karen and he asked to speak in person to a few special people. Glenn even made sure his clients knew how important they were to him and that he made sure they would be taken care of.

God works in such special ways and the Hartman family witnessed many times over the years. Glenn has had many major health issues over the years and his amazing wife has always been by his side. From the many nights in the hospital, the hundreds of trips to doctors' appointments, and the many ways she kept him warm and loved. This last week was no different. Sally stood by her man till the very end and encouraged him to home as we all knew it was time. The night before Glenn passed God gave Sally the grace to go home and get some rest. The next morning she felt Glenn flying to heaven and knew that he had gone home to be with his Heavenly Father. He was at peace.
