Obituary

Gilbert L. Spaeth, 85, Marshfield, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, with his family by his side on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Marshfield Medical Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 18, 2026 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Dan Thelen will officiate. A livestream of the service will be available on Gilbert’s obituary page at rembsfh.com. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Gilbert was born on August 19, 1940 in Marshfield to Alphonse and Alvina (Knoeck) Spaeth. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1959 and was united in marriage to Lois Frey on September 29, 1962.

Gilbert was a dedicated driver with Schneider Transport - retiring in December of 1998. He received many safety awards and million-mile awards for truck driving. He also mowed lawn for Woodstock Construction with all his grandchildren and gave driving lessons.

He enjoyed mowing his lawn, planting flowers, camping, and cheering on the Packers, Brewers, and Milwaukee Bucks, spending winters in Arizona, and of course… his old fashions. Gilbert especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be there in spirit for the two little ones arriving soon.

Gilbert was truly one of a kind. He deeply loved his wife, his family, and everyone around him. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, children, Cathy (Russ) Schuster, Connie (Tom) Brock, and Timothy (Stephanie) Spaeth, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren with 2 great grandchildren on the way.

He is further survived by his sister, Ellen Connor of Rothschild and sister in law, Donna Spaeth of Spencer.

He was preceded in death by parents, sister in infancy, brothers, Harold, Larry, and Gerald Spaeth, sister, Joanne McCumber, and sister in law, Lorraine Spaeth.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Palliative Care or Cancer Research.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Marshfield Medical Center ER and Palliative care.
