Gerald L."Chuck" Kafka, 94 of Edgar died on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Hospice House in Wausau. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratford with Fr. John Robert Alphonse officiating. Music will be provided by St. Joseph's Resurrection Choir. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, town of Eau Pleine, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 393 and the VFW Post 10187 both of Edgar. Visitations will be from 9:30am until time of service on Monday, June 1, 2015 until service time. Gerald was born in the town of Emmet on January 25, 1921 to Edward and Christine (Kurtzweil) Kafka. He was united in marriage to Germaine E. Schoenfuss on April 10, 1942 in Lafayette, IN. She died on May 10, 2005. He served in the United State Navy during World War II from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945. After his military discharge they farmed in the town of Emmet, Marathon County until retirement in 1983. He also drove cattle truck and beer delivery truck while farming. Chuck is survived by his children, Kenneth (Debra) Kafka of Janesville, Diane (Duane) Knetter of Edgar, Sandra (Dick) Picard of Minneapolis, Randolph Kafka of Athens, Donna (Steve) Varney and Terence (Shelly) Kafka both of Wausau and Jacquelyn Kafka of Chili; 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. He is further survived by two brothers, Mark (Rita) Kafka of Edgar and Robert (Gloria) Kafka of Stratford; two sisters Eleanor (Leonard) Schoenfuss of Stratford and Lillian Johnson of Plover. Besides his parents and wife Germaine, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law Steve Varney, daughter-in-law Gloria Kafka, sister Lila Novitzke and brother-in-law Fritz Johnson.
