Obituary

Gerald G. Brockman, Altdorf, 94, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 with his daughter, Barb by his side at Agape Acres Assisted Living in Warrens. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at St. Joachim's Catholic Church, Pittsville with Rev. Robert Nelson officiating. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Altdorf where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 153 of Pittsville. The visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home, Pittsville and from 9:00 am on Tuesday until service time at St. Joachim's Catholic Church. Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Gerald was born on May 25, 1919 in Altdorf to William and Catherine (Wirtz) Brockman. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in France during World War II. He married Lucille Ella VanGorder on June 1, 1940. She died on November 1, 1996. Gerald worked at Nekoosa Papers until leaving there to put more time in building his cranberry marsh. He was instrumental in starting the Cranberry School and received an award from the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers for his service. After retiring from the cranberry marsh he became a consultant to other growers and traveled to Russia to consult with growers there. Lucille and he enjoyed traveling in their spare time especially traveling out west to the Dakotas and Wyoming. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altdorf, until moving to Pittsville and becoming a member of St. Joachim's Catholic Church there. He moved to Tomah in 2008 to be near his daughter Barb. He is survived by his children, Arley (Debbie) Brockman, Lincoln, MO, Barbara (Bob) Fink, Warrens, Craig (Sal) Brockman, Tecumseh, MI, Maureen Brockman, Pinellas Park, FL, and Dan (Ginger) Brockman, Nebraska. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Rob (special friend – Jayme Altman) Fink, Laurie Rinehart, Wade (Nikki) Brockman, Jessica Brockman, Ashley Brockman, Whitney (Bryan) Schwanebeck, Jonah (Aimie) Brockman, Sarah Griffin, Jeremy Brockman, Renee (Ben) Tilberg and Kristine (Jake) Ryan and 19 great grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Ernest "Bud" (Margaret) Brockman and 3 sisters, Rita Hassenohrl, Joan Schmidt and Marcie Diedrick. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a son, Donald, 2 daughters, Muriel and Ginny, brothers, Ray, Laurence, Wilbert, Leonard, Ben, and Harold Brockman and sisters, Clara Omholt, Louise Kissinger, Dora Osenga, Rose Krause and Connie Iverson.
