George R. Schmidt, age 93, Stratford, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at his home in Stratford.
Funeral services for family and friends will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where the visitation will be from 12:30 pm until service time. The service will be streamed online at www.facebook.com/rembsfuneralhomes. Rev. Tim Yorgey will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Marshfield.
George was born on November 25, 1931, in Stratford to Leo and Olga (Peter) Schmidt, and was a 1951 graduate of Stratford High School. He married Sharon R. Dickman on October 8, 1966, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield. She died on October 22, 1992.
As a young man, George worked various jobs, including road construction. In 1963 he began employment as an over the road truck driver for Marathon Electric in Wausau, WI, accomplishing seven million safe miles, until his retirement after 38 years of service. During his years of employment, he also maintained the family farm. After retirement from Marathon Electric he continued driving semi for Draxler Trucking, Marshfield.
George was a member of the Stratford Lions Club and Community Bible Church, Stratford. He had an extremely deep Christian faith and wasn't afraid to share his faith and wisdom with anyone he encountered. He had a passion for restoring old cars and loved the search for vintage parts. He stayed young filling his time with countless projects and took pride in his land.
He is survived by his children, Karen Bullock of Genoa City, WI, Dan (Sarah Schneider) Schmidt of Green Bay, and John (Kim) Schmidt of Merrill. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Elizabeth and Zane Bullock, Robin, Preston, and Bryn Schmidt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Frieda Hoefs, and brothers, Edwin, William, Melvin, and Albert Schmidt and their spouses, and granddaughters, Gabrielle, Katherine, and Anastasia Bullock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
