Obituary

George Laverne Jacobson, 86, went home to heaven on March 24th, 2016. He was born on February 20, 1930 to Joe and Theresa Jacobson of Sherwood, WI. He graduated from Pittsville High School in 1948 and worked on his father's farm before serving in the US Army, during the Korean War. He was stationed out of Japan, where he received the Occupation Medal for his time in service to his country. He was honorably discharged in 1952. LaVerne married his sweetheart and love of his life, Marjorie Jensen on January 24th, 1953. They lived in City Point, WI where they were both members of the City Point Community Church. Laverne, or Jake as his friends called him, worked on the Jensen Cranberry Farm, was later employed with the John L Sullivan Construction Company and retired from Trierweiler's Construction. Laverne loved the outdoors and could often be found in the woods pulping trees, hunting, or just walking in the quiet wilderness he loved. He enjoyed life's simple pleasures, like putting in a long day's work before coming home to a good hot meal, telling stories around the table, and spending time with his family. On December 22nd, 1999, his best friend and loving wife, Marjorie, was called home to heaven. He and 'Mert', as he affectionately called her, were never blessed with children, but they were blessed with many loving nieces and nephews; perhaps it should be said, their nieces and nephews were blessed by them. Laverne was the uncle who always made time; he was patient and loving and made each child feel special. You could always "ride along" when he ran an errand, convince him you needed one more cookie, or stay up much later then you were supposed to. His heart was full and we loved him for it! Laverne joins his wife, Marjorie, his parents, his sister Dorothy Schwanebeck, and his very special niece, Marilyn Dudovick in heaven. He is survived by his brothers Russell, Earl, Richard, and Jerry, and many loving nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the Bethel Center for their consistent and loving care of our uncle and brother, as well as Ministry Hospice for supporting Laverne with respect and grace. Funeral services will be held at the City Point Community Church on Wednesday, March 30th at 11:00 am. Respect and condolences may also be shared from 10:00 am till services begin at 11:00am. Burial will take place in City Point Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 153 of Pittsville. Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
