George Emil Furo, age 79, peacefully passed away April 16, 2014 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 22nd at St Wenceslaus Church, Milladore. Father John Ofori-Domah will officiate. Committal services and burial will be held following the service at the Runkel Cemetery, Junction City where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 468 of Milladore. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. George was born June 2, 1934 in the Town of Eau Pleine to Emil and Gladys (Wolfe) Furo. George attended Auburndale High School graduating in 1953. He then went into the US Army serving in Germany with an honorable discharge in 1956. When he returned home he married his high school sweetheart Marlene Fruin on January 26, 1957. They recently celebrated their 57th anniversary. Together they had nine children. George enjoyed spending his time up north camping with family and friends and his beagle dogs. He had a passion for bowling, beekeeping, gardening and watching sports. George especially loved making his homemade cinnamon rolls for his children and grandchildren. George was a member of the Milladore American Legion Post 468 and a previous member of the Milladore Lions Club. George is survived by his mother Gladys Furo, his wife Marlene and their children Karen (Joe Bonnstetter), Theresa (Mark Hamus), Rhonda (Merlyn Reigel), Ronald, Kim (Brian Simcakoski), Tom (Amy), LeeAnne (Philip Pesanka) and John. His grandchildren Laura and Bethany Bonnstetter, Calvin (Megan) and Collin Hamus, Rachel (Justin Wilke), Chad (Megan) Walhood, Rubie Furo, Tyler Furo and Nicole Simcakoski, Audrey and Kolby Pesanka, and 3 great-grand children Savannah, Brooklyn and Charlotte Wilke. George is preceded in death by his father Emil, son George and a sister Carolyn Stoflet. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at a later date in George's name at the Friends of the Mead Wildlife Center. The family would like to thank the staff of the Stevens Point Cancer Center and Ministry Hospice Home Care for their help and support. Martens/Rembs will be assisting the family with arrangements.
