Obituary

George LeRoy Bloczynski, 87, resident of The Aster, died peacefully in The House of the Dove on July 17th, 2013. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Sabastian Venni officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery where military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #54 of Marshfield. The Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Tuesday, July 23rd at Rembs Funeral Home and again from 10am Wednesday until service time at the church. There will be a combined parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary service at 6:30pm Tuesday at Rembs Funeral Home. George was born on September 28, 1925 in Marshfield to John A. and Rose (Drewek) Bloczynski. He lived until May of this year at his home on West 4th Street, a little more than a block from the house where he and his nine brothers and sisters were raised. He worked first as an engineer and foreman for the Weyhaeuser Company, and then sold plumbing supplies for Central State Supply in Marshfield. He attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and Marshfield Senior High until he was drafted during WWII. In recent years he shared stories of his service, in the Pacific Theater with the US Marine Corps, and was on Iwo Jima when the flag was raised on Mount Suribachi. He is included in the Wisconsin Public TV documentary series, Wisconsin WWII Stories, and in the veteran's display of The Thomas House History Center. In November of 2012, VFW Post 1866 of Marshfield named him Marshfield's Veteran of the Year. George was united in marriage to Clara J. Peter on October 30, 1948 at Sacred Heart Church following his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps. George is survived by his wife, Clara, his daughter, Christine (James) Merrill of Watertown, grandsons James and Sean Merrill both of Madison; two sisters Mary Ann (Gordon) Moore of Richland Center, and Joan Knauf of Eau Claire; sisters-in-law Madeline Bloczynski of Marshfield and Pat (Glen) Boson of Marshfield; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers Sylvester, Raymond, Lawrence, Laverne, John and Thomas, and his sister, Leona Weis. George will be remembered as a faithful member of Sacred Heart, an avid sportsman, a poet, and a man of wit and intelligence with a will of iron.
