Gary Cody, Physician, Father, and Friend Gary DeLane Cody, MD, who dedicated his life to the practice of medicine, to caring for the sick and the injured, and to his family, died October 22, 2013 in Marshfield. He was born in Austin, Texas on November 30, 1935 to the late Estelle G. and Ernest C. Cody and received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963. He practiced medicine five years in North Dakota and more than 29 years in southern Illinois. On September 6, 1958 he married his college sweetheart M. Joyce Whaley of Fordville, North Dakota. With his first wife he became a devoted father to three children, Andrea, Lee and Mark Cody. In 1992 he married a second time to Joan Gail Burroughs of Eldorado, Illinois, who preceded him in death on June 12, 2008. He was passionate about golf, gardening, hunting and fishing in his free time. In retirement he traveled the country and lived in Blairsden, California, Naples, Florida, Evansville, Indiana and after the death of his second wife with his oldest son, Lee, in Mashfield. He was beloved by his family and remembered as a kind and compassionate doctor by many. He is survived by his children, Andrea Cody, River Falls, Wisconsin; Lee Cody, MD (Traci Swink, MD) Marshfield, Wisconsin; and Mark Cody (Steve Glickman) and three grandchildren, Anika Cody Kuhn, 18; Ian Bailey Cody, 15; and Tessa Hannah Cody, 11; and by his stepdaughter, Julie Koester (Eddie Koester) of Wadesville, Indiana, and their three children, Bryce, Madison and Lauren.
