Eugene Raymond Nurmi I, 73, of Trout Creek passed away peacefully after a culmination of health issues and most recently cancer on January 24, 2021 in Marshfield, WI. He was born April 16, 1947 in Bruce Crossing, MI to Ida (Nurmi) Ojaniemi.
Eugene grew up in Bruce Crossing and went to school in Paynesville. Most of his childhood was spent getting into mischief with his cousins. He became a member in the Michigan laborers union and continued to travel the USA working construction. Eugene worked in almost every state, even in Puerto Rico. Smokestacks, pipelines, concrete and brick work was his expertise. He was a proud union man and proud veteran. He loved to spend his free time after retirement going to the casino, watching wheel of fortune and the game show network, reading the daily newspaper, as well as watching wrestling every week, and going to his weekly visits "Sunday morning services!" with his cousin Roy. Every morning he would get up early and make his special meals for the chihuahuas.
In 1987 he married Mary Anne McLaughlin in Trout Creek. This March would have been their 34th wedding anniversary. Eugene is survived by his wife Mary Anne; son Eugene II of Kingsford, MI; son Jody of Marquette. Granddaughter Chelsea of Agate. Also surviving is his brother Armas (Nancy), Donna (Jeff) and Sandra (Dan) all of Bruce Crossing. Also surviving is sister-in-law Diane of Marquette; brother-in-law Don (Sandy) of trout creek; Jim (Bobby) of Canada. Also surviving is many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his Mother Ida, stepfather Arne, daughter Shannon and baby boy John. Brother-in-law Harold and nephew John. Brother-in-law Joel and brother-in-law Mike. And many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a Finlander through and through. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
His wishes were to not have a public service. This summer we will have military rights at the burial. Want to thank all his doctors, nurses and therapists over the last 5 years. Also would like to thank the Marshfield hospital for taking care of him through this.
