Obituary

Eugene L. "Gene" Lutz, 71, Marshfield, died on Monday, May 30, 2011, surrounded by his family, following a courageous short battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, June 6, 2011 at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Hewitt. Rev. Eric Linzmaier will officiate and Gladys Martin will be the organist for St. Michaels Choir. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 54 and grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Rembs Funeral Home and on Monday from 9:30 am until service time at St. Michaels Church. A parish rosary service will be held on Sunday at 6:30 pm at the funeral home. Gene was born on May 8, 1940 in Marshfield, the son of Dale and Ann (Greibel) Lutz and attended Stratford schools. After his education he entered the United States Army in 1959 and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis from 1961 until 1963. After his honorable discharge he became employed at Wick Building Systems for forty five years, retiring as production manager in 2006. He married Karlene A. Wagner on August 18, 1962 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Marshfield. He was a long time member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, Hewitt where he was an usher for many years and served on various committees and was a Eucharistic minister to the homebound. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, landscaping and spending time outdoors. He especially loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Karlene and three sons and three daughters, Michael (Nicole) Lutz of Vesper, Mark (Peggy) Lutz of Marshfield, Kenneth Lutz of Marshfield, Janet (Nick) Dolle of Neillsville, Karla (Paul) Spencer of Marshfield and Jill Lutz of Marshfield. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Papa", Kristen, Josh, Travis, Molly, Abigail, Olivia, McKenna, Elizabeth and Gena. He is further survived by a brother, Richard (Bonnie) Lutz of Marshfield, two sisters, Shirley Martin and Mary Jane (Jerold) Weis, all of Marshfield, a sister-in-law, Donna Lutz and a brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Nancy Wagner, all of Marshfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal and paternal grandparents, a brother, Robert, his mother and father-in-law, Ed and Lena Wagner, and a niece, Cathy Wagner. Memorials may be designated in his name to St. Michaels Cemetery fund.
