Esther K. Horn, 100, formerly of Pittsville, died at her home in Denver, CO where she had been living for the past 10 years. Esther was born September 11, 1912 to Albert and Tina (Rutz) Krueger on the family farm just outside Pittsville. She attended Otter Creek School in the Town of Wood. She married Kurt C. Horn on March 4, 1939. Esther and her husband farmed for many years in the Town of Wood and moved to Pittsville when they retired. He died in 2001. Besides working on the farms, Esther also worked in the meat locker and a bakery. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Carlson of Denver, CO. She is also survived by grandchildren; Keith Horn of VA, Sandy Wood of MN, Debbie Tschida of CO and Mark Carlson of TX; great grandchildren Meranda of MN, Christopher of WI, Matthew of CO and Caleb and Avery of TX; and great-great grandchild Alex of MN, and many nieces and nephews. When she was young, she loved to dance, fish and read. She tatted beautiful hankies and crocheted tablecloths. She was well known for her baking and stock of home canned food. She spent her later years reading and watching westerns. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kurt, son Kurt Jr., grandson Craig and brothers Emil, Otto and Leonard Krueger along with her sisters Frances, Martha, Elizabeth, Anna, Leona and Linda. Funeral services will be 11am Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home in Pittsville with Pastor Doug Schalow officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pittsville. Visitations will be on Saturday September 22, 2012 at the Buchanan/Rembs Funeral Home from 10am until time of services.
