Edwin “Ed” W. Duerr, 97, Marshfield, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026 at House of the Dove, Marshfield with his family by his side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield with Rev. Jared Clements officiating. Burial will follow at Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Town of Richfield, Wood County where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 54 and VFW Mueller-Hintz Post #1866 - Marshfield. Serving as pallbearers will be Ernie, Ray, Bob, and Brady Duerr, Kevin Weiler, and Ralph Czaikowski along with honorary pallbearers, John, Dennis, and Wayne Duerr, and Lori Brinkmann.
Visitation will take place from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 23 and from 9:00 am until the time of service on Wednesday, all at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Edwin was born on September 7, 1928 in Athens, Wisconsin to Charles and Erna (Strege) Duerr.
He served in the United States Army from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1948 with a rank of T-5. He then worked for Roddis Plywood in Marshfield for 13 years. On July 17, 1954 Edwin married Irene Sydow. From 1962-1964 Edwin and Irene ran the Hilltop Bar in Granton. In addition to running the bar, in 1963 Edwin started working for Trieweiler Construction where he was an operating engineer until his retirement. Following his retirement he continued to do side jobs well into his 80’s. Edwin was passionate about baseball where he played in many leagues over the years. He played in the Beer and Lunch league for his son’s team, The Viaduct Bar until he was 75. Even at 75, Edwin was still one of the best first basemen around. He was honored with a plaque for first baseman and hitting player in the 45 and older league. Edwin loved his family and was very proud to have 12 great, great, grandchildren resulting in 5 generations.
Edwin was a member of and past commander of The VFW. He was also a member of the American Legion, Marshfield Eagles Club, and the Klondike Fox Trackers.
Edwin is survived by his son, Marvin “Butch” (Mary Lou) Duerr of Marshfield, daughter in law Elaine, grandchildren Lori (Roger Brinkmann), Dennis (Candy Brandl), Wayne (Lisa), Ray (Nancy), Bob (Molly), John, Ernie (Tanya), Ralph, Steve, and Amy. 18 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Irene and sons Ken, Ray “Karl”, Donny, & Jeff. His parents, and brothers, Willard, Clarence, Marvin, Roy, & George.
Our family would like to thank St Croix Hospice, Compassus Hospice, Wells Nature View, and House of the Dove for the great care they provide in his last days.
