DuWayne J. Welch, 83 of Marshfield died on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Ministry St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield. Mass of Christian burial will be 11am Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Don Meuret officiating. Private burial services will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery with John and Mark Nelson, Stan Charron, Al Lawson, Carl Mueller, Bob Adler and Ron Konopa serving as pallbearers. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post # 54 of Marshfield. Family will greet relatives and friends on Friday from 5-7pm at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Marshfield. There will be a combine Parish and Knights of Columbus rosary service at 6:30pm Friday at the church. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. DuWayne was born on April 4, 1928 in the town of Spencer, Marathon County to Rollo and Theresa (Weis) Welch. He attended Long School in Richfield, Sacred Heart School in Marshfield and graduated in 1946 from Marshfield High School. He completed his education at UW Extension and technical school in Marshfield. Prior to his marriage he was employed by the Soo Line Railroad during the summer months and at Gambles stores in Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids. He was united in marriage to Bernice C. Faber on September 16, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield. Following their marriage, DuWayne worked for Nelson-Jameson, Inc Marshfield from 1949-1951. He then joined the United States Army Headquarters Battery from 1951-1953, stationed at Fort Sill, OK and Fort Bliss, Texas. He rejoined the firm following his honorable discharge, working as product manager and sales rep. and served on the board of directors. He retired in 1990. DuWayne was a Boy Scout assistant leader and he was a member of the Marshfield Catholic Cemetery Board, Marshfield Serra Club, Honorary Life member Knights of Columbus of Marshfield and a KC volunteer at the Marshfield Care Center. He enjoyed camping, family trips, riding his moped, swimming, biking, reading, and using his computer. He is survived by his wife Bernice, two sons, Ronald (Cindy) Welch of Hayward and David Welch of Marshfield, daughter Barbara Welch of Marshfield and one granddaughter Amber Welch of Winona, MN. He is further survived by one brother Jerry (Donna) Welch of Marshfield, three sisters Clara (Jerry) Sauer of DePere, Joan Fait of Marshfield and Iris Guensberg of Arpin. Besides his parents, DuWayne was preceded in death by a brother Orman "Joe" Welch and two brothers-in-law Stanley Fait and Jerry Guensberg. Family would like to give a special thanks to Marshfield Care Center for the care and comfort to DuWayne since November 2010 and to Dr. John Bennet, Palliative Care and Ministry St. Josephs Hospital. He will be remembered for his faith and quiet guidance. DuWayne was a loving husband, dad and grandpa. God saw he was getting tired And a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around him And whispered "Come to Me." With tearful eyes we watched Him suffer, and saw him fade away. And though we loved him dearly, We could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard-working hands now rest. God broke our hearts to Prove to us He only takes the best. Memorials may be given in DuWayne's name to either Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church or the Marshfield Area Catholic Schools.
