Duane “Duke” C. Schueller, 87, Marshfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Dan Thelen will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 54 Marshfield at the church. A private burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Duane Schueller was born on December 5, 1938 to Valentine and Adelaide (Eberhardy) Schueller in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
Duke attended Sacred Heart grade school and Columbus High School. He graduated in 1956. After high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 - 1958. While in the Marine Corps he participated in and completed the 5th Marine 110 mile hike, the longest regimented hike since WWII, an accomplishment he was very proud of. After service he returned to Marshfield where he worked at the Marshfield Milling Co. from 1958 - 1960.
He married Romayne Spielman of Barron, Wisconsin on August 6th, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Almena, Wisconsin. She passed away in October of 2006.
They had four children: Debra (Jon) Trudeau, Hewitt, Mike (Jennifer) Schueller, Duluth, MN, Jeff (Cathy) Schueller, Oshkosh, Sara Schueller (Pat Hughes), Marshfield, and 10 grandchildren: Cale, Crista, Patrick, Scott, Vincent, Giada, Blake, Paige, Katie, and Allie, along with 10 great grandchildren.
He was employed at the Marshfield Street Department from 1960 - 1989, starting out as a street line painter and then moving into the parts department and later became Street Superintendent from 1976 - 1989. Starting in 1990 he became the Barron County Highway Commissioner until he retired in 2005. He and Romayne then moved back to Marshfield.
He was a home delivered meal volunteer for 16 years. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Rice Lake Elks and Marshfield Elks Lodges, and a member of the Marshfield Eagles and most recently the Marshfield American Legion.
In his younger years he played on a city softball league and also was on a league bowling team. Later he enjoyed the sport of curling and was a member of the curling club. He spent much time at his mobile home on the Chippewa flowage at the Tiger Musky Resort where he enjoyed fishing, boating and swimming with a cold one in hand on the sandy shoreline.
He is survived by his sister Patricia (Patrick) Christy of Lake Tomahawk, brother Paul (Jane) Schueller of DePere, sisters in law Pat Mayer, Wausau, Kathleen (Gary) Steel of Barron, and Barbara Etlicher of Chippewa Falls, and brother in law Mike (Pat) Spielman also of Chippewa Falls.
He was preceded in death by his wife Romayne, his parents Valentine and Adelaide, brother and sister in law Jerry & Janet Schueller, brothers in law George Mayer and Marlynn Etlicher, and father and mother in law Edward and Opal Spielman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Columbus Catholic Schools or House of the Dove.
The family wishes to thank Three Oaks, Compassus Hospice, and House of the Dove for the care and support given to their family and dad.
