Dr. Hong Mo Chen, 93, passed away on November 8, 2024 in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Dr. Chen was born on April 11, 1931, in Xingang Township, Taiwan. He graduated from National Taiwan University Medical School in 1958. In 1964, he immigrated to New York City to complete his orthopaedic surgery training and married Hsi Mei Chen.

Dr. Chen completed a fellowship in New Jersey, then moved to Marshfield, Wisconsin, in 1971. He only intended to stay for one year, but loved the community so much that he remained at the Marshfield Clinic until his retirement in 1997 and lived in the community until his passing.

A dedicated surgeon, his legacy includes devotion to patient care and assisting in the development of total joint replacement surgery. Outside of medicine, he enjoyed cooking, fishing, hunting, skiing, and spending time with his friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and brother. He is survived by his wife Mei; sister, Beth; three children, Herbert (Harriet), Frederick (Holly), Jennifer (Kevin); and five grandchildren, Alex, Elizabeth, Oliver, Derek, and Abigail.
